Reality Shows to Watch

Need to unwind at the end of a long day? Here are some of my favorite reality shows.

Married at First Sight - streaming on Hulu

This season we went to Boston in search of love. The producers have done an incredible job of having us loving and hating 50% of the cast members every other episode. Prime example: Olajuwon, is he charming? Is he an archaic misogynist? Or a charming archaic misogynist? If you want double the whiplash, how about Lindsey and Mark? We’re almost towards the end of the season and I still can’t figure out which one of them sucks. If you love to yell at your TV, then there’s no better couple than Chris and Alyssa. My favorite seasons include season 14, season 12, season 10, and season 8.

Love is Blind - streaming on Netflix

We follow couples who go on dates talking through a wall before meeting each other face to face. The catch is they have to propose before getting to meet each other in person. This season they were in Chicago. This is your chance to see a real-life shallow hal in real life. The level of delusion is extraordinary, you hear about people this superficial, and you know they exist but you’re still in disbelief when you watch it. His polar opposite comes in the form of a very poised, self-assured woman, who seems an unlikely cast member. Villains this season aren’t only in the men's camp, there's a strong showing by narcissistic women too. 

Singles Inferno - streaming on Netflix

To cleanse your pallet and your soul, and restore some faith in humanity. Check out Singles Inferno, a Japanese dating show that does not involve tantric yoga, uncomfortable massages, and your hope that STD screenings were part of the application process. There were actual feelings, manners, and dignity. Who knew reality TV could be so engaging with zero humiliation.

My Mom, Your Dad - streaming on HBO Max

The Bachelor has been promising us a 50+ cast for a while but My Mom, Your Dad beat them to the punch. Honestly, it’s hard to imagine the Bachelor can outdo the premise of My Mom, Your Dad. Because unbeknownst to the single parents, their college-aged children who nominated them, are in a house down the road watching their every move and making decisions about their dates. It is both cringey and heartwarming. Every awkward kiss and dance move, witnessed by their children. You don't know who is more disturbed by that fact, the kids or the parents. 

My next watch is The Ultimatum - Streaming on Netflix

Couples give each other an Ultimatum and swap partners. What sort of drugs are they on? I don't know whos more depraved, the people pitching these shows, the people casting, or the cast themselves.
